Mai Al-Nakib was born in Baghdad, Iraq. Her interest in writing began at an early age while she was pursuing her BA in English Literature. She holds a MA in English Literature from the University of Sydney. She has published articles in literary journals and won several writing awards, including the regional prize for the Arab region, the Sheikh Zuweid Short Story Competition
